Brian, Mom and I woke up bright and early today to get our morning jog in before our day full of 3 Rivers Festival Activities!  Brian and I ran my original 3 mile loop that I used to run when I was home during the summers in college, and my mom did her C25K walk/run.  Afterwards we all showered up and fueled up before scoping out our spots for the parade.  I had a bowl of frozen banana with peanut butter and raisins.  It may sound like an odd combo…but it was perfect!

Some people are seriously hard core about this parade thing.  As we were leaving the Tincaps game last night, people were literally camped out holding their spots.  My brother joined some friends to do that, us on the other hand enjoyed getting our sleep and showering this morning ;), and I don’t think our seats were half bad! I don’t know how it happens, but we never leave early and we always get the same great spots every year.

While watching the parade, I noticed that by a lot of the parking meters there were green bike racks shaped like little bicycles with the saying “Bike Fort Wayne, burn calories not gas!”  I love it!  Head on over to their facebook page to read more about what “Bike Fort Wayne” is doing in the city.

The parade was great!  It doesn’t change too much from year to year, but the tradition is what I love.  I was able to see my high school’s marching band, and I think that they were the best group (if I do say so myself).

We headed to the Barr Street Market (a farmer’s market) and Art in the Park to check out tasty local food and beautiful local art, crafts, and jewelry.  At the bar street market, I was able to buy three little eggplants for $1 and a ton of fresh green onions for $1!  I love a good bargain.   We were pretty hungry since it was afternoon and we had been in the sun for several hours, so we stopped at a little booth for the restaurant Chuck and Birds.  They had a delicious grilled vegetable sandwich displayed that we were all drooling over.  Brian and I shared one and my dad had his own.

Grillin our sandwich!

The sandwich had grilled eggplant, zucchini, red onion, goat cheese, tomato chutney, and “bakers caviar” which is a blend of roasted garlic, bell pepper, eggplant, and a ton of yummy spices.  This sandwich hit the spot.

We then walked around the rest of the festival.  Every year, there is a Chalk Walk where people in the community reserve a square on the ground and then come to decorate it.  Some people do elaborate artwork, and other’s do stick figures.  One year, my mom and sister reserved a spot and played connect the dots!  Everyone has their own sense of creativity 😉

After checking out all of the booths we decided to soak our feet in the fountain to cool off.  Boy was that refreshing!

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer weekend!
