Yesterday, I had the amazing experience of entering a new-to-Indiana grocery store, Earth Fare, and receiving a tour of this great place to purchase things that we use every single day.

Earth Fare is just what it says that it is, the healthy supermarket.  They have extremely high standards for the products that they place on their shelves, and they want to make sure that everyone knows it!

Earth Fare’s food philosophy is no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial fats or artificial trans fats, no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, no artificial sweeteners, no artificial preservatives, no bleached or bromated flour, and no antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones in fresh meat or dairy.  They are not afraid, they are proud to post these standards everywhere throughout the grocery store so that the customer truly knows what they are getting.

At the front of every store, they place the super value items.  These items change out quite frequently with the seasons.  Right now, the value items are organic canned pumpkin, organic stuffing, cranberries, sparkling juices, and waters.

The tour then took me through the beautiful produce section.  The colors of the fresh fruits and veggies were vibrant enough to make me want some delicious produce right then and there.

There is a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that are organic or conventional so that people of varying budgets can enjoy the freshness of the Earth Fare produce.

I think that my favorite part of the ENTIRE store was the interactive nut butter station.  The nut butter options were almond and peanut butter, but they also had honey roasted peanut butter and dark chocolate peanut butter.  YUM!

The bulk section showcased a wide variety of beans, grains, seeds, nuts, and flours.  The selection was unique, but perfect for buying just the amount needed of a specialty item for any given recipe.

Just because the food philosophy focuses on no high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners doesn’t mean that the store doesn’t have candy.  There was a wide variety of delicious looking candy that I am sure would please any palate.

Something unique about Earth Fare is that they integrate their gluten free foods into the regular foods throughout the entire supermarket.  For example, to find gluten free pasta, you do not need to find the gluten free aisle, you only need to look for the pasta aisle.

The gluten free items have wooden panels, and the regular items have metal panels.  How simple and easy to remember!

Earth Fare also carries wellness products such as vitamins, lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc.

The most interesting find in this section was Broo, shampoos and body washes made from beer!   It smells citrusy with a slight hint of beer.  Don’t worry, it doesn’t smell like a frat house!

Earth Fare finds that when people hear “Healthy Supermarket” many people wrinkle their nose and think that the store will be full of tasteless, weird, expensive groceries.  Earth Fare wants everyone to know that is not true!  While many of the brands that they carry are not the run-of-the-mill “regular” brands that you see on TV or read about in magazines, they do carry brands that everyone has heard of as long as the product meets the food philosophy.

Earth Fare has a large selection of fair trade coffee, meaning that is has been purchased directly from the coffee bean growers for a slightly higher price. This section smelled delicious!

Our next stop on the tour was the most interesting section of the entire store!  Pick-your-own ravioli

This section of the grocery store is a cold case of raviolis of varying flavors such as pumpkin sage, spinach portabella, goat cheese sun dried tomato, and vegan garlic and artichoke.  Shoppers can mix and match these raviolis anyway they like, the only challenge is remember what you picked once you get home!

Earth Fare has over 300 different cheeses that range from traditional cheddar to huntsman cheese.  They all looked delicious.  Something unique about this section is that you can select any piece of cheese (even a small one!) and ask the people behind the counter to make it the exact size you like, no questions asked!  This leaves a lot of opportunity to try some very unique cheeses.

The supermarket carries a wide variety of sauces, dips, and marinades for the adventurous cook.

And they also feature a charcuterie, where you can have your meats sliced any way you like.

Not only can shoppers purchase items to cook with, but they can also purchase a full cooked meal.  The shop has a hot food bar, a bakery with freshly baked bread and baked goods, a salad and cold food bar, and a frozen yogurt machine!

They even make their own pizzas.

Shoppers can opt to dine in their cafe area, or take their food to-go.  In the cafe, there is a giant community calendar (which they are still working on filling up!) so that everyone knows that Earth Fare is truly apart of the community.

This Noblesville location of Earth Fare, is having the Grand Opening on Wednesday, November 7.  Because they have reached 1500 likes on Facebook (already!) they are giving away these reusable grocery totes on opening day.

Earth Fare truly believes in being a part of the community.  They take all of the money that they could spend on advertising and put it towards helping the communities that they are apart of!  This past weekend, Earth Fare sponsored the children’s portion of the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon  and provided bags for the runners to carry around at the pre-race expo.

With Thanksgiving coming up, Earth Fare is focusing on making sure as many families as possible get to have a Thanksgiving turkey.  At check-out, shoppers can opt to donate $1, $5, $10, or an entire turkey to a family in need in their community.  On top of that, Earth Fare will donate as well.  The ultimate goal is for Earth Fare to donate a total of 3,000 turkeys throughout the country.  At this particular location, the goal is 100 turkeys.  I think that Earth Fare will be successful, considering they started this act of kindness on November 1, and they have already donated 300 turkeys!

I was completely impressed by Earth Fare and fell in love, not only with the beautiful displays and unique products, but with the philosophy behind it.  I love the community involvement and the in-your-face attitude that Earth Fare has about it’s food standards.

Thank you Earth Fare for inviting me over for a “sneak preview!”
