Happy hump day folks!
These past couple of weeks have felt like a whirlwind.
I feel as though once I come into work, I blink and then the day is done and I kind of wonder if I was able to accomplish everything I set out to. Initially, I was busy getting back up to speed after the honeymoon, now we are busy with the start of school at the campus we are located on. There is always something!
Despite the busyness, I am still eating my fruits and veggies and getting my movement/exercise in throughout the day.
I feel like I have been talking about food a lot with you all lately, but haven’t really discussed what I am doing fitness-wise.
Because of my limited time, I have been utilizing group fitness A LOT…and I love it!
I usually run on my own one or two times per week, but other than that everything else is part of a class.
Group fitness is perfect for me because it helps me be extremely efficient with my time (there is no messing around when I’m in a group fitness class!), I get to be surrounded by people, and group fitness is fun for me. I am a firm believer in the idea that fitness/movement should be something you ENJOY!
Recently, I have been taking Bodypump two times per week and teaching once per week.
I have been taking 60 min RPM, a Les Mills indoor cycling class, one time a week.
And I have also been taking CXWORX and Bodycombat. Lots of group fitness and variety!
That being said…I am ready for a new fitness challenge and last night I signed up for my fifth half marathon. I will be completing the Monumental Half Marathon in November.
My girlfriends and me after running the Monumental Half last year!
I have 72 days, so just about 12 weeks to train for this event. The plan is not set in stone yet, as there are some personal goals I want to achieve this time around and I want to talk about training details with some of the more experienced runners that I work with.
I will be sure to share once I have my plan figured out!

running is pretty much a constant for me, just because it makes my day feel complete…right now I’m training for the NYC marathon so it’s a must too!!
Wow!! Good luck with training! That is such an amazing goal 🙂
I love all the group fitness classes that you mentioned! I do much better in a group fitness class as opposed to working out on my own. Congratulations on signing up for your 5th half – wow! I’m contemplating my first 🙂
You should totally do it!! Once you complete your first…you will be hooked!
I’m working towards a 10K in October and a half marathon in January. It will be my first!
Yay!! Good luck with the training!
I love the half marathon distance! My fiance and I are wanting to train together for our fourth one together after our wedding in October. Right now we’re currently going to the gym together twice a week to lift weights, which has been so fun to do together. I try to get in 4 cardio sessions a week too! Usually a couple runs outdoors and some elliptical intervals. I wish our gym had RPM…best cardio/funnest/sweatiest spin class ever!
The half marathon distance is a fave of mine too 🙂 Brian comes to the gym with me most days too and I love it!! Yay for working out with our significant other 🙂
So exciting! Good luck with your training Tara! My eventual goal is run a marathon… I am working my way there slowly but surely and have my first race (10K!) on Saturday.
Good luck!! I have contemplated the full marathon distance, but can’t bring myself to do it just yet. I can’t wait to see how things go for you!
I did the full at Monumental last year – great course!Right now I’m being forced to fight the urge to workout hard per doctor’s orders, no fun! but what is fun is getting more into yoga, pilates, strength training for me!
I would love to do a full but I haven’t mustered up the courage yet…good luck with the pilates, yoga, and strength!! 🙂 I need to do more of the stretching and yoga….my muscles get so tight!
I love love love group fitness! Other than teaching, I’m not able to take classes very often and I miss it.
I understand! Last year at this time, I was working full time and teaching almost every single day so I am very thankful to have the feeling of “having my cake and eating it too” by teaching once a week and participating the rest of the week!
I ran the Monumental last year too — I love that course! I won’t be running it this year, because I need to let my knee heal :(. My sister and dad will be, though! Good luck with your training!
The course is great! But last year it was so cold and rainy. Hopefully it is sunny this year!
I’ve been looking for races to run in Indianapolis (my fiance’s brother just moved there)!! I was looking into the Women’s half.. are you doing this one? I would love to do the Monumental Half too but I will be getting married that day!
I will not be doing the women’s half this year but I did it two years ago and it was great! It was actually my first half ever!!! Good luck with training and finishing up wedding plans 🙂
