Have you guys even heard of kefir? (I’m still not 100% sure how to pronounce it)

keh-FEAR

KEH-fur

Regardless of how you say it, it is a fermented drinkable dairy that is usually about 99% lactose-free and full of probiotics making it great for gut health.  It tastes a lot like yogurt!

Today is Recipe Redux day, and guess what the theme is…gut health!

With cold and flu season upon us, the best defense may be good gut health. Since much of our immune health begins in the gut, show us your healthy, delicious recipe to bolster gut health.

I’ve always been a smoothie lover.  Growing up, mom used to make breakfast for us before school and cool smoothies were always a hit with me.  And strawberry always the favorite.

Kefir showed up in a few instagram stories, so after doing a bit of reading about it I thought I would give it a shot.  I love how it adds creamy texture and a slight tang to the smoothie, and gives my gut health a boost!

While I love smoothies, when I’m having a bad tummy day sometimes they aren’t the best option (too much fruit at one time can be higher in FODMAPs) so I’ve measured the fruit in this smoothie to make sure it is 100% tummy friendly.  It’s all about portion control here!

So even though the temps are dropping, I’m still sipping on smoothies! (and wearing a blanket around the house!)

    • OK! So, I asked someone at the kefir booth at FNCE and he said it was KEY-fur. NEVER would have guessed! 🙂
