My everyday 9-5 job does not typically hit the pages of this blog very often, but today I have to let you in on something that I have been waiting to share with you all for quite some time now!
Just over two weeks ago, I resigned from my position as the Outside Sales Manager at two hotels in Indianapolis to accept a new and very exciting position for me. The change was unexpected, but everything just seemed right and I feel as if everything is beginning to fall into place. I learned a lot about the business world in my first “real” job as a Sales Manager and I truly feel that I was prepared for this move because of my experience in that position.
Although I learned a lot at my previous job, and the people were great to work with, at the end of the day the hospitality industry is just not where my heart was.
Yesterday was my first official day at my new place of work, and I can finally announce that I am the new Membership Manager at the National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) in Indianapolis. NIFS is a nonprofit fitness facility located in downtown Indianapolis that also manages over 40 onsite fitness facilities in corporate and retirement centers throughout Indianapolis and the United States.
I have actually been a group fitness instructor at NIFS for about a year now teaching a regularly scheduled Bodypump class and subbing whenever I am available for other class formats. I also volunteer at NIFS as a running group leader in their Mini Marathon Training Program, and I write some of their blog posts. From the first time I walked in the door, I felt that there was something “different” about this gym and loved everything about it…and now I am working there as my full-time job!
Although there are onsite fitness centers at other locations scattered throughout the country, NIFS is not a chain. There is only one main fitness center and that is the downtown location. NIFS is different because they really believe in the education of an overall healthy lifestyle and they are constantly putting on educational seminars, fitness programs, they help train collegiate athletes, and they have a youth development program that allows children to come visit the facility. Every member of the training staff has a degree in something related to exercise science, and we even have a Registered Dietician on staff! Literally, NIFS has it all 🙂
I couldn’t imagine myself working in a fitness and health environment other than NIFS, and I cannot wait to see where this journey takes me.
I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday!

Very cool! I’ve been to a NIFS a few times, on field trips when I was working at a summer camp. One of my old co-workers worked there for a while too, so I’ve always heard good things about it!
Thanks Emily! It’s only day 5 and I am loving everything about it!!
