Last week, I did absolutely no running so I could take a mental and physical break after my recent half marathon.
Brian and I are going to run the Drumstick Dash this Thanksgiving just like last year, and Brian hasn’t run a single mile since the Firecracker 6 race we did back in July for the wedding so we thought it may be a good idea to get our legs back in the groove.
Yesterday was officially the coldest day of the year since March so naturally Brian and I thought it would be a great idea to go running in it!
To say we were cold was a bit of an understatement…and notice the white stuff? Β Yep! Β It snowed here in Indiana.
Honestly, it wasn’t that bad, it just made me really think about properly layering my clothing AND it made me wonder how the heck I run outside in weather like that (or WORSE than that) when January comes around for Mini Marathon training.
After my chilly run and a hot shower, I was more than ready for some hot food.
Actually, I did contemplate a smoothie but I knew I had to stay true to the November Breakfast Challenge so I held off on the smoothie and decided on something warm.
I opted for the Oatmeal Artists Fudgy Banana and Peanut Butter Oatmeal.
Yep, it’s a delicious as it sounds, super filling, healthy, AND it doesn’t take long to cook.
I am loving the Oatmeal Artists delicious ideas and recipes. Β They are REALLY helping me out with this breakfast challenge π

Hi Tara,
I just found your blog and I am so so happy I found it! I can’t wait for future posts.
So glad you are enjoying the blog, Amanda! Thanks for stopping by!
Ugh I hate the cold, and I especially hate running in the cold! Boston hit a low yesterday too .. sad days..
Yes! So sad when it gets cold π
ooooh Girl you are brave! I tend to run ouside til its below 40 or 45ish… THough the TM is in no way as fun as hittin’ the pavement, I’m not a chilly bird!
It was chilly, but not the worst…at least it was sunny! π
Oooo, I make oats like that all the time and they are SO good!
When I used to live in Connecticut, I remember one time I went out for a run in December…in shorts. It didn’t end well. My legs were bright red and freezing by the time I got home!
OH no! Running in shorts in December!??! AH! Freezing is the only word that comes to mind….
I REALLY dislike the cold (and I live in Calgary, go figure) but I do my best to run outside as long as possible before moving indoors. I know there will be stretches where I have to run inside because of the cold, so I work to get as many outdoor runs in as I can before that happens.
I hate cold weather!! I totally take my workouts inside until March.. π I’ve always lived in the south so I just don’t have my tolerance built up.
It certainly does take tolerance build up…I’m still building mine π
I have been trying to get outdoors time in the sun (or clouds more like it here yesterday EACH day)…I made myself walk the dog the past few days when it was colder for minimum 15 mins…but have made it to 40ish each day! I think the cold air is somewhat refreshing π but goodness I hate to see what it will be like further into winter! BRRRR
Good job on the 40 minutes! It is a little refreshing, but it is still cold! π I would just walk super fast if I was walking my dog outside so I could be done quicker!
