It’s official, friends.

This May, I will complete my sixth half marathon!  The One America 500 Festival Mini Marathon.

You may remember I wrote a recap post all about last year’s mini marathon!

Next week, the NIFS Mini Marathon Training Program meets for our orientation and since I am a running group pace leader I thought it might be a good idea to actually sign up for the race.

I will be leading the 8:30 pace group, so I decided to seed myself so I can have a preferred start time.  Last year I did NOT seed myself and I felt like I was dodging people the entire race and I was never able to settle into my pace.  It may not be any different this year, but hopefully seeding myself will help!

How Do You Decide Which Races to Run?

As I was signing up for my race, I started to think about other races I would like to run.

Run Disney

rock n roll half marathon in las vegas

nyc women's half marathon

zooma race series

That being said, all of the races I HAVE completed have been local in Indianapolis for Fort Wayne.  For me, I guess I pick the races I run based on convenient…and budget 😉

All of my dream races, however, are based on location.  I think running a race would be a great way to explore a new city!

Now it’s your turn to share with me:

Question of the Day:

  • How do you decide which races YOU run?
  • What is one of the FAVORITE races you have completed and why did you love it? Location? Race swag? Expo?

  1. I’ve run the Indy Mini the last three years, simply because some of my good friends wanted to do it. This year, I also ran the Michigan Wine Trail 13.Wine run. A friend signed up, then he took a job in Florida, and he couldn’t get a refund, so he transferred his registration to me! That one was fun because I ran by vineyards, then I got a wine glass at the finish line. I was able to use it at the different wineries in the area!

  2. One year the mini fell on the same day as my college graduation which led me looking for a replacement. I ran the Kentucky Derby Half in Lousiville- it was a great change of scenery and budget friendly! We made a weekend out of it 🙂 Good luck with training!

  3. I’m also doing the mini 🙂 As far as what race has been the best so far? The Fort 4 Fitness in Ft Wayne by far! Loved the pullovers we got, the free digital downloads of your race pics, and finishing on the baseball field, so cool!

The races on my bucket list: the classics (Chicago, NYC) and then some fun/unique ones (Disney, Ragnar, Miami, Vegas).
