I get a TON of questions about grocery shopping.

  • How many times a week do you go?
  • How many meals do you plan for the week?
  • What is on your list?

Because I get so many questions about grocery shopping I thought I would make a little video for all of you sharing my top two grocery shopping tips along with my favorite items to purchase while grocery shopping.

Keep in mind, I realize that the items on my list and in the video are definitely healthy, but if I’m being completely honest I don’t usually keep a lot of treats in the house.  If our fridge and cupboards are stocked with healthy delish eats then that’s what we will eat!!

If I decide I want a treat, I typically purchase a small portion so that I can enjoy the treat and be done when it’s done.  I also really enjoy indulging on healthier options like banana “faux-yo” and berries with nut butter (lame I know!), but I like what I like…so don’t judge my plate and I won’t judge yours…but you all asked the questions so here are some answers!

Check out the video for the details!

Before I head to the store, I typically plan out 4 dinners, 1-2 lunches for Brian (because he packs a lunch every day).  From there I can pretty much create my list.  I plan 4 dinners because that gives us a little wiggle room if friends want to go out or if we have leftovers to eat.

And here is the extended list that I mentioned in the video:

  • Eggs
  • Romaine
  • Dark leafy greens (like dinosaur/tuscan kale)
  • Carrots (currently crushing on the shredded variety)
  • Canned coconut milk (I really like Trader Joe’s and the Thai Kitchen)
  • Trader Joe’s cold brew coffee
  • Bell peppers
  • Fresh herbs
  • Chia seeds
  • Coconut flour
  • Raw nuts/seeds (walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc)
  • Bananas

  • Irish breakfast tea
  • Trail mix (check the ingredients here!)
  • Butternut squash
  • Fish (salmon, mahi mahi, shrimp, cod)
  • Organic, free range chicken
  • Coconut oil spray
  • Coconut oil (unrefined, organic, cold pressed)

  1. Would you mind sharing the recipe for the coconut flour chocolate chip cookie you mentioned? Thanks

    • Thanks, Marisa!! 🙂 YES…trail mix is one that we constantly have to read the label for!!

  2. Buy fresh foods would be my 3rd tip for healthy grocery shopping. Buying healthy foods can be really daunting when you’re first starting out, so the safest way to do it is to buy more produce than processed foods. Then as you get used to reading labels and understanding what they say, you can branch out!
    Loved the vid btw 😀

  3. I feel like you would love Ingredient1! – It’s a free app where you can read the label and make a shopping list. You could also search for foods based on diet which I love!

  4. Great tips! I always use Pinterest to plan out a few meals for the week and create a list based on that. A few basics for me is chocolate milk (BEST post-run fuel!), egg beaters and greek yogurt!
