When I arrived home yesterday from work, there was a special package waiting for Brian and I.
It was the CD of our engagement photos! Brian and I quickly looked through the photos, and I seriously do not have any idea how we are going to pick a picture of our save-the-date. I love them all!

Final Half Marathon Prep
Today marks three days before the Fort 4 Fitness half marathon that I am running on Saturday. When it comes to preparing for a long race, these last three days are essential when it comes to proper fueling and hydrating.
This is when the focus on carbohydrates really comes into play. When I first learned of “carbo-loading” I automatically thought of a giant spaghetti meal the night before a race. What I didn’t think of was slightly increasing my carbohydrate intake a few days before hand with rice, oats, quinoa, lowfat dairy products, and low-fiber fruits.
Recently, I have been doing a lot of reading on marathon and half-marathon training nutrition, and I was pleasantly surprised with the seemingly obvious suggestions that I found.
It is recommended to eat around 4g of carbohydrates per pound of body weight, while staying within ones daily caloric needs. This time around, I will not be focusing on the specific grams of carbohydrates, but I will simply add in additional carbohydrates and swap out carbohydrates for some protein and fat to in what I typically eat.
This morning, I added an extra 1/3 of banana to my overnight oats. For my mid-morning snack, I added 1/4 cup of granola.
Nutrition Success had a great list of pre race snack foods to incorporate into my pre-race days.
Now, eating these extra carbs and drinking extra water are not going to make me faster in these next three days, but they are going to give me sustainable energy so that I am able to work to the best of my ability.
I also plan on taking a Friday morning yoga class to make sure that I am stretched and limber for Saturday!
I am getting so excited for Saturday!!

Good luck with your half!! I’m usually just so antsy from the taper that all logical-thinking goes out the window…
And YAY FOR MODERN FAMILY!!
Luckily I have to teach boot camp and spinning this week…otherwise I would be totally antsy too 🙂 It’s so hard to rest!!
I CAN’T WAIT FOR MODERN FAMILY so excited so excited
I think it’s the best thing on television 🙂 hehe
Oh how exciting that your CD came!! Honestly, I don’t have a special pre run meal plan leading up to the big day. I listen to what my body needs & wants. It’s always worked wonders.
Listening to the bod is always number one.
I have never CHO loaded before. I think it’s just an excuse for runners to eat more 😉 I figure since I’m training less, I do not need to be eating more CHO.
During those last few days, I just try to stay active and focus on easy running 🙂
Staying focused is key 🙂 Thanks for reading!
