Lots going on this past weekend, including my sister’s birthday!

Brian and I hosted a little get together for her, and it was so fun 🙂

Here is a look into my weekend…

Saturday

Saturday morning, I contemplated running at the gym but I have been feeling kind of sick (sore throat, runny nose, etc…) so I thought a little rest and some yoga might be a better option.

I did a 20 minute hip opening sequence from Do You Yoga.

After my quickie yoga session, I enjoyed a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs with spinach and a yummy side of cherries, bananas and pecan butter.

The rest of the day, Brian and I pretty much spent tidying up the house in preparation for Brenna’s birthday.

I got some appetizers together with the help of my mom and Brian, and we put some decorations up around the house too.

I wanted to make sure nearly all the appetizers were Whole 30 compliant, considering I was making everything.  These endurance crackers from Oh She Glows had popped up on a couple of other blogs that I read, so I thought I would give them a try as the ingredients were Whole 30 compliant AND they seemed like awesome dippers….

YUM!  I am so glad I tried them and I can’t wait to make them again 🙂

They were particularly great for this crab spinach and artichoke dip that I made with homemade mayonnaise.  Recipe coming soon…

But I think the star of ALL the appetizers was the guacamole…it was SUCH a good batch!

I enjoyed mine with lots of veggies and no corn chips of course 🙂

We also enjoyed shrimp cocktail with homemade cocktail sauce…seriously just about the easiest thing in the world.

I used this Paleo Cocktail Sauce from Cook Eat Paleo.  So easy, tastes better than what you buy in the store.  Definitely make it next time you enjoy shrimp cocktail.

Ta da!  The house is all ready…

After both of my parents arrived at my house, all the appetizers were out and the places were set we waited anxiously because my sister knew she was coming for dinner, but she had no idea my parents were going to be there!!

Success!  She was surprised 🙂

After our appetizers we gave Brenna her birthday gifts.

I got her a cute yoga bag because she just joined a yoga studio and bought a new yoga mat, but I also got her the magnet in the picture below…

brenna bday 7

Apparently I’m not the only one who thought that was a great gift for her  (she has two kitties and they are pretty cute!) she already has the same magnet!! 🙂

Mom made a white sangria for everyone to enjoy and I forgot to take a pic, but I did snap a pic of my drink for the evening…

Sparkling water with a bit of lime.  Whole 30 and tasty!

My sister requested that I make my eggplant parmesan with a side of caesar.  Two of my favorites, so I was happy to make them.  The meal looked soo good!

brenna bday 14

I stayed true to my Whole 30 meal plan and cooked up some eggplant in the homemade marinara sauce that goes with the eggplant parm and I enjoyed a little more of the appetizers.  My meal was yummy too!

After plates were cleaned and dinner was finished Mom brought out dessert!

Strawberry shortcakes.  So cute!

brenna bday 10

It was such a fun evening, and Brian and I LOVED being the hosts to my parents, my sister, and her friends.

Sunday

Sunday morning I woke up at 7:30am with no alarm…yay for sleeping in!

I thought about running outside, but I didn’t want to deal with the cold.

I thought about going to the gym and running on the treadmill, but I STILL didn’t want to deal with the cold.

Instead, I created an at-home workout for myself and did it in my living room 🙂

workout

After my little circuit workout, I enjoyed some hardboiled eggs, peaches, strawberries, bananas, and pecan butter (I can’t get enough of that stuff!)

I did a little cooking and crossed some things off of my to do list.

And that was my weekend!
