Happy 2018!

Things I'm Loving December

Things have been a bit quiet around here during the month of December, and I had a much less structured schedule throughout all of 2017.  The year started with a move across the country (Denver to Indianapolis) and I started my Dietetic Internship.

I took most of the month of December off from my internship so I could enjoy the holidays with friends and family and truly recharge.  During that time, I decided to take a break from blogging and really most of my side projects.  It was the first time in a LONG time that I truly took a break from all.the.things.  And…it was pretty nice.  It was just the recharge I needed because now I feel energized, recharged, I can think clearly, and I feel so motivated.

I knew I was at the point where I needed a clean break from all obligations because I really felt like everything was cluttered in my mind and I couldn’t organize my thoughts or goals.  Not a great feeling for someone who thrives on discipline, structure and organization.  Anyways….now, I am back to normal and ready to go for 2018!

Here are some of my highlights from my month off in December 🙂

Foods I am Loving:

  • Christmas Cookies (specifically Buckeyes)

Christmas Cookies

I made SO many Christmas cookies, I ended up freezing some so that we can enjoy them later in the year 🙂 Buckeyes are sweet peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate and have always been my fav treat during the holidays.  Last year I made a healthier version that legit tastes just as good as the real deal 😉

Moments I am Loving:

  • Traveling to NYC with Brian

Tara and Brian NYC

Brian and I visited NYC a couple of weeks before Christmas and it was AMAZING! I absolutely love NYC all times of the year, but it is particularly magical during the holiday season.  We saw Dear Evan Hansen (MUST see if you are able to get tickets!!), ate amazing food from restaurants like Buvette, walked everywhere, and had the best time.

  • Celebrated the holidays with family

Grandma Christmas

Brian and I were lucky enough to have Brian’s family over for Christmas Eve lunch before mass and my family over for Christmas Day.  It was so fun having a house full of family and tons of dogs 🙂 Normally, I take about a million pictures, but this year I literally took two (posted above).  Guess I was savoring the moment and being really present!

Tara and Brian Newfields Winterlights

Tara and Erin NYE

The Indianapolis Museum of Art had a winter light display for the first time ever this year, so we spent the first part of our New Years Eve night walking in the snowy winter wonderland admiring all the light displays.   With hot cocoa in hand and the best company, it was a low-key perfect way to celebrate the end of the year.

Tara WISHTV

I had an absolute blast sharing Make-Ahead Breakfasts for a Crowd with WISHTV on Indy Style.  Not only was it fun being on air, but the day I was on the show had reindeer and puppies!  Such a fun way to spend my morning.

I hope you all had a fantastic December and a great start to the new year!
