Description

I’m finally sharing my mom’s homemade lasagna recipe. This is the recipe we grew up with!

Ingredients

Scale

10 lasagna noodles cooked according to package directions

For the sauce

1 large onion, diced

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

1 lb ground beef or turkey

34 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons oregano

2 tablespoons Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

Garlic powder to taste

16oz can tomato sauce

16 oz can diced tomatoes

For layering in the lasagna

2, 8oz bags of mozzarella cheese

1, 16oz container cottage cheese

1 cup grated parmesan

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. For the sauce: Saute the onion in the olive oil until soft and add the ground meat to brown. Allow the meat to cook and brown with the onions, stirring occasionally. Add the remaining sauce ingredients (garlic, oregano, italian seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic powder, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes). Stir and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  3. To make the lasagna: Scoop a small amount of sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 pan and layer the ingredients in the following order:
  • ½ of the cooked lasagna noodles
  • 1 8 oz bags mozz cheese
  • ½  of a 16 oz container of cottage cheese
  • sprinkle with ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • ½ of the sauce
  • ½ of the cooked lasagna noodles
  • 1 8 oz bags mozz cheese
  • ½ of a 16 oz container of cottage cheese
  • sprinkle with ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • Top with the remaining sauce
  • Top with a little more parmesan
  1. Bake at 375 for about 1 hour and allow the lasagna to rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting. This prevents it from being too soupy, but even when it is soupy it is still delicious!
