After my 8 mile run this morning I wasn’t too hungry.  I am finding that for about an hour or so after my long runs I am just not hungry.  I know that post-workout nutrition is important for recovery, so I am trying to figure out what works best for my body.

I showered and got ready before making myself lunch.  Tuna salad, home-grown cucumber, carrot sticks, a slice of cheese, and an assortment of crackers.  It hit the spot!

I then got ready to head back to Indianapolis and packed myself some snacks for the road including a homemade trail mix with puffed rice cereal (I love this stuff!), raisins, chocolate chips, and salted peanuts.

Along with one of my mom’s homemade granola bars.  When I am in the car or driving a long distance I like to have little snackies or gum to keep me occupied.  These snacks were perfect because even though I wasn’t hungry right after the run…the hunger bug hit later 😉

Before heading to Indy I had a dentist appointment and I am cavity free!  Although I love going to the dentist, I always get slightly worried right before I go in that I will have a cavity.  I have only had one in 22 years, so I think I am still doing pretty good!

My dentist had some new people on staff, and when one of the dentists came in to check my teeth I had never met him before.  He seemed young, so I asked how long he had been working and where he went to school.  Turns out he just graduated in May from IU School of Dentistry, which is where Brian goes…small world!  Unfortunately, they don’t know each other.

I then made a necessary stop at the Three Rivers Running Company.  I had only been to the store once to register for a race, but I had never purchased anything there.  The staff was so friendly and knowledgable and were able to answer all of my questions.

I left with a small water bottle that straps to my hand.  Hopefully this works well so that I am not dying of thurst mid-way through my run.

And Body Glide!  After running two days in a row with chafing, I NEVER want to run with that little problem again.  Today it wasn’t only on my legs, but under my arms…needless to say it is very uncomfortable.  I really hope this stuff works.

After my pit stop at the running store, I made the 2 hour drive down to Indianapolis.  The drive went by fairly quickly, and I was able to pick the dogs I am sitting for up from the pet hotel before it was too late.  It took a little longer than expected, so I post-poned my grocery shopping trip for the next two weeks until tomorrow.  I really enjoy the process of grocery shopping and like to take my time.  Going tonight would have made me feel rushed.

After snacking on my car snacks and some other random things throughout the evening while picking up the dogs, I was still hungry for something fresh.  I decided to steam some broccolini and summer squash, then top it with salsa.  The little snack/meal was delicious, nutritious, and filling…just what I needed.

Tomorrow should be a relaxing yet productive day.  I don’t have too much planned so I should be able to grocery shop with ease, create and teach Core Intensity, and have a meeting with a potential wedding florist!  All in a days work 🙂
