My grandmother has always been one to experiment with different foods and products that she uses in her every day life. It was actually a couple of years ago when I was introduced to the idea of coconut oil by her, but Grandma didn’t tell me to use it for cooking, she told me to use it as body lotion!
Boy, does that stuff make your skin feel soft.
Since then, it seems as if coconut oil has been popping up in more places and becoming a lot more common. I soon realized that coconut oil can be used for a wide variety of things from conditioning your hair to tossing it with your popcorn in place of butter.
When Tropical Traditions sent me a sample of their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil to review, I was was excited to experiment with the oil in a variety of recipes to share with all of you.
If you have never used coconut oil, you may be surprised to find that it is a solid at room temperature, much like butter, and it does not have any coconut flavor.
The Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a great product. I found that it works great as a butter substitute in cookies, granola, and can be subbed in almost any place that you would use a different type of oil.
I have used the coconut oil in a variety of recipes that are sweet, savory, decadent, and healthy. One thing that I have noticed with this oil is that a little goes a long way. The team at Tropical Traditions was kind enough to send me a full size 32oz glass jar to sample, and although I have been experimenting with this stuff in everything it hardly looks like I have made a dent!
